Minister of State for Health (Primary Health Care) Hon. Dr. Moriku Joyce Kaducu has confirmed that the health ministry received a report of four suspected cholera cases on 5th January, 2019 who had been at Kirudu hospital with diarrhoea and vomiting which started on 4th January, 2019.

The suspected Cholera suspects came out of Kaboowa parish, Rubaga. The patients were immediately given medical care by health workers at Kirudu hospital.

However, on the same day the ministry of health made an arrangement to transfer the patients to Naguru-China Uganda Cooperation Hospital where a treatment centre was established.

“Before we came here we went to Kaboowa for general cleaning. This was today. We found a challenge of water, some of the National Water taps don’t work. There were no hand washing facilities. We’re going to ensure it’s addressed” Kaducu said.

She adds that fortunately, there are no Cholera cases in Nakawa, Central and Kawempe though the health ministry teams are on ground sensitising and doing a passive search.

“The following precautions are being taken to prevent & control the spread of Cholera; Opened the Naguru-China Uganda Cooperation Hospital; Took of Stool samples & tested them for Cholera; Embarked on ambulance pickups & coordinated with stakeholders to follow up cases” Kaducu added.
