Ugandans have been advised to desist from moving around with large sums of money or keeping such in their houses and offices as criminals are taking advantage to steal the cash.

The advice was sounded by Emilian Kayima, the police spokesperson on Thursday. Kayima further advised members of the public to make use of CCTV which could either help keep away the robbers or identify them during investigation.

The development comes after criminals attacked a factory in Nagalama on October 29th and made away with some equipment and cash close to 6.5 million shillings.
The factory was among those targeted criminals who have been writing threatening letters to investors, business people and the general public. Police had met and assured the concerned individuals of protection, before this factory was attacked.

Two security guards were injured in the brutal attack and their weapons stolen. However, Kayima says they have already recovered the weapons and arrested the culprits.

“Top management of police have visited this facility and given the owners and managers assurances of apprehending all those that participated in this crime and have them arraigned in courts of law. We have equally strengthened security for all the other factories and business personalities” Kayima said.

He cautioned members of the public to make use of the police emergency numbers 999/112 in case of an attack on them or their neighbors of businesses.
