Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) will continue receiving donations for Bududa Landslide victims until next week in order for more items to be collected.

This was announced by Dr. Deus Kamunyu the MUASA chairman, while speaking to the press this morning. Dr. Kamunyu says they have extended the drive for a week in order to allow staff and students more time to join the drive.

60 people died in landslides that happened a week ago, while 139 households with over 695 people were destroyed. These were in the villages of Nanyenga, Bunamwamba, Shishambwa, Nnayinza, Suume, Shitihko, Malandu, Namalira, Lwanda and Nyekhe in Bukalasi Sub County.

The “Aid Bududa Community” campaign has so far raised over 10 million Shillings, clothes, food among other items. Last week, the Chinese community in Uganda donated money and items valued at least 100m Shillings.

The opposition Forum for Democratic Change, FDC party is also carrying out a fundraising drive to raise some items for the victims. Their items will be delivered on Thursday this week.

For Makerere University, the campaign ends of Friday and after this, Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe will flag off those delivering the aid.

They are calling upon members of the public to join the drive and save a life.
