60 Bodies discovered in Bududa as China donates over UGX 100m to the Landslide victims 

60 people died in the recent landslides that hit Bududa district again. The number which had been put at 46 earlier has now moved to 60, according to the spokesperson disaster committee, Wilson Watira.

60 people died in the recent landslides that hit Bududa district again. The number which had been put at 46 earlier has now moved to 60, according to the spokesperson disaster committee, Wilson Watira.

Watira confirmed this afternoon that 60 bodies were recovered from Buwali, Bukalasi, Nalwanga and Bubiita Sub Counties. According to Watira, bodies have been handed over to families for burial while others that remained unclaimed were buried by the rescue team.

Also, the number of people injured in the disaster is at 45 and the search is still ongoing to recover more bodies which could have been trapped in river Suume.
This morning, the Chinese Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Uganda donated more than 100m in cash and supplies.

Some of the notable companies under the association include; Zhe Jiang Chinese association donated 10,000kgs of maize flour, Karuma Hydro Power project donated UGX 3,000,000, Guangdong Chamber of commerce Uganda 10,000kgs maize flour, Zhang’s group 5,000kgs of posho, while Huawei also contributed UGX 5,000,000, CICO donated UGX 5,000,000, StarTimes 5,000,000, CNOOC UGX 5,000,000 as relief to the victims.

The donations were made via the office of the Prime minister. The Chinese ambassador also handed over a donation of ICT equipment to the OPM.

They were received by Mary Karooro Okurut the minister in charge of General Duties in the office of the Prime Minister.
