A technical team set up by the Ethics and Integrity Minister, Rev Fr. Simon Lokodo to review events at the just concluded MTN Nyege Nyege is yet to release a report about the festival activities.
Lokodo was criticized by several Ugandans when he attempted to stop a festival that attracts thousands of people from diverse cultures, claiming it was a recruitment centre for homosexuals.
An emergency meeting would later be called and organizers of the event warned against obscenity of any kind. Nyege Nyege festival took place at the Nile Discovery Resort beach in Njeru Municipality in Buikwe district last weekend.
As a means of appeasing Lokodo, cabinet issued guidelines to organizers including among others; providing police unfettered access to the venue, registration of revelers, screening of participants, denying access to minor, ban on procession no processions to and from the venue.
The minister now says the future of the festival depends on the committee findings. “My team is still compiling the report. In the event that we learn that any of the 11 conditions were not met, it is going to tantamount to not anymore allowing that activity to take place next year. By end of this week we shall have known” Lokodo said.
According to Lokodo it does not make any sense allowing Ugandans three days of merry making and having unprotected sex where they will draw diseases that will kill them all in the name of making money.
“It is good we make money but at the same time we don’t like to destroy our culture. You see people were there for three days to do nothing else but drink alcohol and merry make, have open and free sex, and then you contract diseases and you end up coming out of that event sick” He warned.
Lokodo is known for his controversial views about sexuality.
