Mityana Municipality MP, Hon. Francis Zaake has been officially charged with two counts of trason and escaping from custody.

The ailing MP has consequently been released on police bond and allowed to travel abroad for proper medical attention.

Zaake has been in the hospital for the past three weeks after injuries he sustained during a fracas that left one person dead in Arua.

He was allegedly kidnapped and tortured by security operatives who later dumped him at Lubaga hospital, where he was in ICU for close to a week.

However, it was later revealed by president Museveni, that Zaake had escaped from police custody in Arua and was a wanted man.

It was on this basis, that the MP was denied permission to leave the country on Thursday last week after clearance by the doctors. Government classified him as a wanted criminal capable of not returning to the country, given a chance to travel.

He was arrested and has since been under observation at Kiruddu Hospital on Salama road. His travel comes days after that of his Kyadondo East Counterpart Bobi Wine, who was also arrested at the airport trying to leave the country on Thursday evening, but was allowed to leave a day later.

While Bobi Wine went to the US, hon. Zaake’s family says he is heading to India. The youthful MP is bound by his bond to report to the commissioner electoral crimes at CID Kibuli on October 3rd 2018.

However, the release form indicates that Zaake refused to sign. “Suspect declined to sign in the presence of his lawyer, Mr. Opio Nicholas” reads the document.
