The Uganda police force over the weekend shot and killed a cattle thief in Kajjansi. The deceased has been identified as Moses Nsubuga who was intercepted along with his counterpart Hassan Kashumba with a truck full of stolen cattle.

Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson says the thieves attacked a police patrol that had intercepted them with pangas, and it was in this process that Nsubugqa was put out of action.

The duo stole cows from the areas of Nakigalala. Police was however informed of the activity and waited for them in kajjansi. However, as they approached the barricades erected by police, the dup jumped out of the truck with pangas and attacked the officers, prompting a shooting that left Nsubuga lifeless.

When questioned, the surviving thief Kashumba told police that they only jumped out of the truck to survey and study the environment so as to find possible routed of escape. Police impounded the truck, Canter Reg.No.UAY 633G, and Nsubuga’s body was taken to Mulago mortuary. 

Also, the seven stolen cattle were returned to their rightful owners, while Kashumba remains detained at Kajjansi Police station awaiting appearance before courts of law on charges of animal theft.

Meanwhile, one of the cattle owners revealed to police that the thugs had been sighted in the area posing as potential buyers while they surveyed different potential homes. They were also able to master sleeping hours of the cattle owners and grazing pattern of the animals before striking.
