High Court Okays Kipoi's trial in General Court MartialAfter his extradition from Botswana in March this year, Kipoi was arraigned before the general court-martial. The troubled MP was arrested in Botswana in January for allegedly posing as a witch doctor and conning millions out unsuspecting people.

Prior to his arrest, Kipoi was wanted for recruiting people in both Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to overthrow government.

Kipoi had petitioned the Civil Division of the High Court to stop his trial on condition that as a civilian, he could only be tried before a civilian court. The former MP also wanted the Attorney General, the Chief of Defense Forces and the Commanding Officer of Makindye Military barracks to explain why he was being held in a Military facility, yet he is a civilian.

But his petition was thrown out by Justice Musa Sekaana on grounds that the orders which were sought in the application were wrongly placed and lacked merit.

Sekaana noted that although the challenge was aimed at the Director of Public Prosecutions, the evidence presented before the court by State Attorney Sylvia Cheptoris indicates that the trial was facilitated by the Director of Army Prosecutions- whose jurisdiction is the General Court Martial.

Defence lawyer Retired Major Ronald Iduli said they were planning to appeal against the ruling.
