Uganda will on Saturday 9th June 2018 celebrate the Heroes Day at Birembo Subcounty in Kakumiro district.

The announcement was made by Hon. Esther Mbayo the Minister for Presidency during a press briefing at the Uganda media centre this afternoon.

According to the minister, the celebrations will be held under the theme; “Remembering our Heroes who kept the faith and fought the fight; the duty to enrich their gains is ours.”

The theme according to hon. Mbayo, provides an opportunity for all Ugandans to look back at the aspirations of the heroes so Ugandans can commit themselves to working harder to achieve the transformational goals set out in the vision 2040.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the National celebrations at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish, Birembo Subcounty, Kakumiro district. However, all districts in the country are expected to commemorate the significant day. These will be presided over by Resident District Commissioners.

“On this occasion, the country will be honored to host the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, H.E Abiy Ahmed Ali. The president will award a special medal ( The Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa- The Grand Master) to his guest H.E Ahmed Ali. This is the highest order that is awarded to Heads of State and government” Mbayo noted.

On the Ugandan side, 250 medals are expected to be awarded to both the living and the dead who exhibited hroism while defending the interest of Ugandans and Africa at large.
