Trouble has befallen Ruth Achimo, the Soroti University Secretary after she was interdicted over corruption allegations. The development came after a directive was issued from the Inspectorate of Government to the University Council Chairman Francis Xavier Lubanga.

Signed by the Deputy Inspector General of Government Mariam Wangadya, the instruction was written on January 23, indicating that the inspectorate had received complaints against the University Secretary which need to be investigated.

According to the IG spokesperson Munira Ali, Achimo is also accused of interfering with the IGG investigation into allegations of corruption perpetuated by her office. She did not divulge details on the matter.

However, the accused says the directive to suspend her from the office is still being handled administratively, describing her suspension as unfair. She has threatened to petition the court to block her interdiction.

The troubled secretary was recently in hot soup for the illegal eviction of residents from a disputed piece of land in Aputon village in Arapai Sub County. The District Security Committee chaired by Soroti Resident District Commissioner, Filbert Ochailap ordered her arrest following violent clashes between the residents and court bailiffs who were hired to evict residents.

This land is under contention between Soroti University and residents and Ochailap accuses Achimo of ordering the eviction without the knowledge of the university administration.
