Investigations by the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) into a shooting involving two soldiers at Katomi Kingdom Resort in Entebbe on Sunday, have commenced.

Police spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan area Luke Owoyesigire initially declined to comment on the matter, saying UPDF was in charge of the investigations. Reports indicate that the two had a disagreement which prompted the exchange in which one of them was severely injured.

The scuffle allegedly started when Nicholas Akandwanaho, one of the soldiers, attempted to disarm his colleague Asike Jage who was threatening revelers at the scene.  Asike then discharged a bullet which injured Akandwanaho in the right thigh. He is now undergoing treatment.

Brigadier Richard Karemire the UPDF Spokesperson says such naughtiness cannot be ignored adding that the matter is already being investigated.

"We cannot just keep quiet; this tarnishes our image as the UPDF because you cannot just start threatening people and also confront revelers".

Karemire says that initial investigations indicate that Asike, one of the officers was excited as part of the New Year's Day festivities. Adding that soldiers are supposed to act professionally and the act of confronting civilians and acting on one's own is against what the UPDF stands for.
