Uganda’s main opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change, FDC is demanding an apology from former Chief of defense forces, now State Minister for work Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala for punching a sitting member of Parliament.

Katumba has been under fire since Wednesday’s session that turned scandalous after speaker Rebecca Kadaga suspended 25 members over misconduct.

After their suspension, the legislators were defiant and refused to vacate the chambers, prompting Kadaga to instruct security to throw them out.

This however, did not go down with members who started fighting security operatives. Among these was Hon. Francis Zaake the Mityana legislator, who was using his belt to fight.

Now, after the former CDF Wamala’s pleas with the opposition MPs to stop fighting proved fruitless, he took matters into his hands and restrained Zaake from hitting more officers.

However, in the process, Gen. Wamala punched the young legislator who lost consciousness and was rushed to Rubaga hospital. Addressing the media at their head offices in Najjanankumbi, Paul Mwiru the FDC deputy publicist said Wamala owes Zaake and the entire country an apology, for acting out of order.

This afternoon, Katumba visited Zaake at the hospital, and the two men were seen exchanging pleasantries.
