Police has confirmed that 9 persons are missing following a mudslide that hit Rusave village, Masaba Subcounty, Sironko District on August 28th 2017.

On the fateful evening at around 1800hrs, heavy rains occurred in Sironko, causing mudslides, leading to the death of one person, and disappearance of 9 others.

The 9 are believed to have been buried under the soil.

During the police weekly press briefing this afternoon, police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye confirmed that a one Wanyenze Nakusi Teopist, wife to Butsetse Michael was swept under the mud while she had gone to cut grass for their cows.

Her body was recovered after rains.

“Nine persons have been reported missing, following the mudslide. It damaged homes, plantations of coffee, bananas and other food crops. Our teams are doing whatever is possible to recover the bodies and together with the local leaders are sensitizing the community so as to prevent further loss of lives by evacuating people from the area especially since the rainy season continues” Kasingye said.

Some of the people missing include; Ivan Wazemba, 4, Sam Woyega, 16, Zedrack Wodeya, 13,   am Wodiango, 13, Jane  Namono, 9, Oliver Nabuzaale, 55, Mike Sam Walyango, 16,  Hakim Fungo, 18, and Adrian  Woniala, 5.
