Uganda is set to host the 9th Commonwealth Youth ministers’ meeting. The meeting which will take place at speke resort Munyonyo, will commence on July 31st and end on August4th 2017.

According to youth minister Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, th summit will be held under the theme; “Resourcing and Financing Youth Development: Youth empowerment.”

It will be attended by 500 members from 53 Commonwealth member countries.

In 2013, during the 8th Commonwealth Youth Ministers’ meeting held in Papua New Guinea, Uganda bid to host the 9th meeting and emerged successful.

The meeting provides a rare opportunity for youth ministers to debate emerging youth development issues, share  good practice and identify collaborative opportunities, take stock of current policy and programming, identify and agree on pragmatic actions to strengthen Youth development, and agree on strategic actions to address the issues and challenges facing young people.

The meeting will review and assess progress of national youth development agenda against globally agreed benchmarks including CHOGM and Ministerial Statements, and identify new priorities for action to advance youth development in the Commonwealth and to achieve the SDGs.

Hon. Nakiwala further reveals that the meeting will provide ministers with an opportunity to engage with the private sector and international organizations on strategies for technical and financial support for national and regional youth development.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the opening ceremony in the presence of the Commonwealth Secretary General Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland Q.C.
