Makerere University Council has voted overwhelmingly in favor of Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe as the best candidate for the Vice Chancellor's job.

Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe polled 16 votes followed by Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba in second position with four votes.  

Prof. Edward Kirumira came third with two votes in the university council, which convened in the Senate building under its chair, Dr. Eng. Charles Wana-Etyem.   

Last evening, the Makerere University Senate received and adopted a report from the Vice Chancellor Search committee.

According to the report, Prof. Nawangwe emerged overall best with 77 percent followed by Prof. Kirumira with 70 percent and Prof. Baryamureeba came last.

Speaking to the media this morning, Dr. Etyem said they will forward the names of Prof. Nawangwe and Prof. Baryamureeba to the chancellor, Dr. Ezra Suruma to make his pick for the post of Vice Chancellor.   

Whoever will be selected by the Chancellor, replaces Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu who didn't offer himself for reappointment
