Shock has hit Makerere Univesity after Jonathan Rwothnga, a final year law student collapsed and died at the main gate.

The Chief Security Officer Makerere University, Jackson Mucunguzi, says Rwothnga collapsed along Makerere Hill road near Makerere University main gate at around 1:00am.

"My police officers who were at the main gate saw the man walking and when he reached near the main gate, he bent down and fell down. In coordination with Wandegeya DPC, the man was rushed to Mulago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead," Mucunguzi said.

He added that; "Our officers have already finished searching his room and we are waiting for a postmortem report from Mulago Hospital to establish the cause of his death." According to Police, they didn't any bruises or blood stains on the deceased's body.

Rwothnga's Facebook friend Ronald Kato Odong posted on his wall, saying "I received a distress call at 1am from a strange person asking me to rush to Mulago Hospital and see my cousin who got involved in an accident. I rushed out and headed to Mulago at breakneck speed. Once I got there, I was shocked to see the lifeless body of my cousin, Jonathan Rwothnga."

According to Odong, the 25-year-old Rwothnga was due to graduate in January with a bachelor's degree of Law from Makerere University. "I still haven't come to terms that he is gone too soon. We were due to have dinner with him tonight to discuss goat raring but more so to catch up," Odong said in his post.

Apparently, there will be a vigil at Rwothnga's family home in Katabi Busambaga in Entebbe this evening. Gift Mubehamwe, a former law student and his classmate describes Rwothnga as a very honest and passionate man who loved arguing about law issues.

"I know him, we joined together in 2012, he was my course mate in the Evening law classes. He was from a rich family and he had two cars. He was ever in suits," Mubehamwe said.

Kampala metropolitan spokesperson Emiliam Kayima says investigations have commenced.
