Uganda will on Tuesday 27/9/16 join the rest of the world in marking World Tourism Day.

This year’s national celebrations will be held at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara under the theme: "Tourism for all: promoting universal accessibility."

According to the minister of tourism Ephraim Kamuntu, the tourism sector has become the mainstay of Uganda's economy, contributing the highest foreign exchange earnings, employment & a major driver for the country to attain middle-income status by 2020.

The minister explains that the Tourism week starts tomorrow with a tour of the UWEC zoo for Persons with Disabilities, while Friday is the first chapter of the domestic tourism drive Tulambule.

The national celebration of World Tourism Day is rotational. Last year we were in the Northern region in Lira and in 2014 we were in the East in Mbale

State minister for Tourism Hon. Kiwanda Geoffrey says Tulambule is in line with the Ministry's theme for this year "Unlocking Uganda's Tourism Potential."

“The best way to achieve this mission is to engage in an aggressive marketing campaign. To do this, we need more marketers on board who love what they market, know what they are marketing and who are passionate about the item being marketed. Our product is Uganda with all its natural resources including the people of Uganda” Kiwanda told the press in Kampala this morning.

Headlining musicians on the Mbarara tour are Eddie Kenzo and Phinah Mugerwa.
