Police has heavily deployed at Makerere University as students at the school of Educations vote for guild president today.

However, there were reports of chaos that led to the arrest of a one Joshua, a supporter of Bazil Biddemu Mwotta the initial winner of the initial elections held in march.

According to our reporter on ground, Joshua confiscated a ballot box before throwing it outside the polling station claiming his candidate was the winner and there was no need for a new election to be held.

Joshua was arrested and whisked away by police which has been on standby since 6:00am. Some students shunned the election claiming they were never informed about the activity.

Security agencies including police and the military deployed as early as 6:00 am to secure the place. There are two polling stations at the school of education that is M-Z and A-L.

A total of 1,900 students from second and third years are eligible to vote. The university has been without a guild president for almost six months after a disputed election on March 11 failed to produce an acceptable winner.

The election follows a June 2nd court ruling issued by Justice Stephen Musota dismissing a petition seeking to block fresh elections.

Bazil Biddemu Mwotta, the winner of the disputed elections had petitioned court seeking its powers to declare him winner and to block fresh voting.
