Nine people have been confirmed dead and 16 others critically injured following a fatal accident at Kamutuuza Trading Centre along the Kampala-Masaka highway.

According to an eye witness, the accident involved a High Way Coaches bus registration Number UAX 236M which was heading for Kanungu district from Kampala last evening.

The witness narrates that the bus collided with a trailer truck that had been parked by the roadside for some days after a mechanical breakdown, about 11 kilometers to Masaka town.

Masaka District Police Traffic Commander Hassan Ssekalema told the press that the dead have not been identified yet but ever Rev. Enoth Komunda a dean in Kanungu Kinkiizi diocese is said to have been travelling on the same bus and did not survive.

Ssekalema indicates that survivors were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, and attributes the accident to careless driving by the bus driver who is currently on the run.

Some passengers who escaped with injuries claim to have jumped through the window explaining that the driver was over speeding and could have dozed on the wheel since it was night time.

May Their Souls Rest In Peace

This brings to seven, the number of fatal accidents along the Kampala-Masaka highway in period of two and half months.
