Mubarak Munyagwa Sserunga, the Kawempe South MP has pledged to fight for the rights and freedoms of all Ugandans in his tenure in the 10th Parliament.
Moments after he was sworn in at parliament on Tuesday, Munyagwa said his first task is to fight for the rights of Dr. Kizza Besigye who is currently remanded in Luzira over treason charges.

Munyagwa, famous for kidnapping himself in 2011 to earn voters’ sympathy promised that while others look at parliament as heaven, he does not believe he has arrived.

He promised that if Besigye spends one more week in prison, he will not shave any hair off his body.

He told journalists in Luganda that; “Sikatemba, mbagambye tulina okugenda nga tulwanilila eddembe ly’omuntu wabulijjo, ngenda kusokela kulya Dr. Besigye.

Bwamala ewiiki endala mukommela, silidayo kumwa kantu kona ku mubiri gwange.” Literally meaning; “This is not a joke, I tell you we have to fight for freedoms of an ordinary Ugandan, I will start with that of Dr. Besigye. If he spends one more week in prison, I will not shave any hair off my body anymore.”

He also promised to lobby fellow legislators to fight for reduction on the size of parliament, and also an appointment of independent and electoral boundaries commission. He claims there are so many constituencies and their boundaries need to be revisited.

He argues that after election of new municipalities’ legislators, parliament will be too large and they will need a bigger house or stadium for their sittings, or they will opt for day and evening sessions to cope with the size of the house.

Munyagwa was formerly a mayor of Kawempe.
