Prime minister, RT. Hon Ruhakana Rugunda has this afternoon officiated the commissioning of the cancer ward and ground breaking for the Radiotherapy bunker.
The ceremony was earlier scheduled to be attended by president Museveni who could not make it since he was presiding over the swearing in of new High court justices.
The Prime minister was accompanied by the Minister of health hon. Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, and State minister for finance Hon. Fred Omach.
Government recently set aside 30bn shillings to build a bunker which is expected to house a radiotherapy machine for Mulago Cancer Institute.
The revelation was made by minister Tumwesigye to the health committee of Parliament, and it is expected to be completed within the next six months.
Uganda Cancer Institute receives at least 44,000 new referrals a year from Uganda, 75% of these may require radiotherapy.
