The Ministry of Health has officially informed the public about the outbreak of rift valley fever.

According to Director General Health Services in the Ministry of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Achieng says the disease is transmitted from animals to humans.

She explains that the ministry has put in place a taskforce to put measures to deal with this disease in suspected animal species.

Dr. Aceng explains that the team will find out the number of infections of the disease within Kabale district as a case in point.

She calls on people to avoid eating dead animals not allowed by veterinary professionals.

The disease outbreak has been reported in Kabale, where two persons were admitted with symptoms comparable to the deadly Ebola virus.

The patients had severe headache, Sore throat, vomiting, cough and bleeding from all body openings prompting health workers to seek help from the Uganda Virus Research Institute.

Now, a team of health workers from the World Health Organization, Centre for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Kabale District Health Office are collecting samples from animals for tests to be conducted by the Uganda Virus Research Institute.

Kabale district Director of Health Services Dr Patrick Tusiime says that the team is collecting samples to enable them health workers get facts on the source of the virus.
