Police in Apac District are holding a man on allegations of assaulting a traffic police officer and causing an accident.

The suspect Moses Orec, a resident of Lela Village, Awila Parish, Akokoro Sub-County, Apac District is currently being held at Aluga police post on charges of assault after fighting John Tenywa.

According to police, Orec was recklessly riding a motorcycle along the Akokoro-Apac road when he was stopped by two traffic officers on duty.

The culprit refused to stop, prompting the traffic officers to pursue him for close to ten minutes when he was finally apprehended. Orec then put up a fight, slapping and kicking Tenywa before he was put down and arrested.

While being transported on a motorcycle to the police, Orec became violent towards the officers, again, triggering an accident, according to a report from Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson.

Okema says Orec didn't want to go to the Police Station because he has been on the run for a crime he committed last year.

"It was established later that Orec had a sanctioned file of assault against one Felix Ogwal, a resident of Ariyo yat cell in Akokoro Sub-County, an incident which occurred in 2021 but all along he was on the run," Okema said.
