The aspirant for the Kampala lord mayor seat, Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone threatened to take legal action against police. This is after the police fired teargas to disperse his supporters on Tuesday last week as he tried to open up his campaign offices along Balintuma road in Rubaga division.
Chameleone claims many of his supporters were left wounded after the incident.
His statement read, "I addressed a press conference this morning on our next course of action following Tuesday's unfortunate incidents where police used excessive force to disrupt our Office opening event causing several injuries and losses.
1.We have instructed our lawyers to communicate our intention to sue and commence legal proceedings against Uganda police for the losses incurred by their high handedness.
2.We have petitioned the electoral commission to investigate police and thei suspicious actions that could have been influenced their bias towards our candidature.
3.We have decided to re-organise the office launch activity next week, Tuesday 8th-Sept-2020 at 10:00am. We have duly communicated our program to the police and expect maximum corporation because we are also citizens of this country and deserve equal treatment".
