Music and politics are inseparable in Uganda.

The influence musicians wield over society is unmeasurable. It is little surprise that some are carried away by joining politics either directly or indirectly. This is a good trend because it brings on board the youth (biggest population) in the political affairs of their country, Uganda.

However, there has been mixed reactions from the musicians themselves, politicians, the elite and the general public over artists joining active politics.

For instance Bobi Wine, Chameleone and Bebe Cool used to be the "Big" three in the 'early' times of modern music, however at some point Bobi Wine got a new calling; joining politics. This inspired Bebe Cool band Chameleone to become very active in the country's politics, but I think Bobi Wine has remained on top of the game.

Why?

Because the three can not be the same. I personally like Bobi Wine's advocacy for good governance inspires many young people but his music doesn't entertain me at all. I like Bebe Cool's music with all my heart because I find it very entertaining and I enjoy it so much, but I don't like his political pass. For Chameleone, I find his music very educative but not entertaining. If I wanted to learn some life lessons, I would sit and listen to Chameleone's songs. Chameleone's political career however is doubtable because of his "Chameleone" ways. He is consistent with inconsistency as today is independent, tomorrow is in DP and the following day he's in NUP/PP.

Music and the youth are big influences to the politics of Uganda, the reason more young people and artists are becoming more active in the country's politics, and indeed more should join because by all means politics affects us all.  Unfortunately, some young artists are being used by some politicians for their own political gains, but also others have no clear direction while trying to participate in the political affairs of the country.

For example, Big talent boss Eddie Kenzo has been dragged into politics, without strategic reasons and base, that has led to his own controversies.

Music and art can be used to shape the country's lolitics but also advocate for good governance. The young talents should be tapped into to inspire the rest of the youth in becoming more creative and innovation. This in the long run would help to check on the country's high unemployment levels among the youth. More young people need to take up political offices, participate in elections, civic awareness raising and advocating for good governance.

Favourables laws, regulations and a conducive working environment will play a great role in promoting talent and art industry in Uganda.
