Qn: Who is Solome Basuuta?

I am "The Queen of Love" a singer/vocalist, songwriter and performing artist who loves to sing about LOVE.

Qn: Growing up, whom did you look up to?

May be not looking up to but growing up I used to listen to Whitney Houston and Cece Winans on tape. I used to even write the lyrics in one of those kasuku books.

Qn: Did you have a nickname when growing up? If yes, what was it and why do you think you got it?

In my family, I was called "Ka-Solome" because I was the last-born.  In school, I was called "SoloNdi"

Qn: At what age did you realize that music was your passion?

Well looking back I have always been in the arts but to answer your question that would be from Gayaza High School. At around 13 years of age

Qn: How would you describe your musical journey thus far?

One word to describe this journey is ADVENTURE. Since I officially started out in 2015, it has been a roller coaster of emotions, lessons, growth and more lessons. However, overall, I am enjoying this journey and I feel that I am truly LIVING A FULL LIFE.

Qn: Who writes your songs?

So far I have written all my songs and worked with so far 3 lyricists (Angela Okullo, Sam Kimera and Fred wallace) to fine tune the lyrics.

Qn: How would you describe your musical style?

I coined up my own style "Love genre"  which is composed of however let's say its Soul with a Jazzy/bluesy feel  and  inspirational music.

Qn: Where do you draw your inspiration from? (What inspires you when penning a song?)

  1. From my relationship with God, where I am with Him:
  2. From what is happening around me i.e Human interaction and nature.
  3. Sometimes I get “Words" that make me feel something and I start to write.

Qn: What is the one thing that you would like your fans to always associate you with?

LOVE.  LOVE.  LOVE.  LOVE and more LOVE. I desire to ALWAYS remind them that that they are Loved and deserve to be Loved.

Qn: What do you do during your free time? (Any hobbies other than music?)

  1. Hanging out with friends and talking loads and laughing
  2. Baking
  3. Travelling and adventure

Qn:  A night out with the girls or a night at home? Where do you belong?

Sometimes I really like being on my own at home and watching movies but mostly a night out with the girls. I like "plot".

Qn: Do you play any musical instruments? If yes,  which one?

Now my instrument is my Voice however in the future I will pick up the keyboard.

Qn: How would you describe Uganda’s music industry at present?

The Ugandan industry is growing and it has a lot of room for any artist to be creative and bring something new and fresh.  However, the industry still needs to grow in areas like building of proper systems and more unity among the artists generally.

When I see the industry there is a lot of POTENTIAL and I am hopefully, the new artists coming up will bring more to the industry that would make it even better.

Qn: What challenges have you encountered in the industry?

  1. Finances have been a major challenge. I have had to think outside the box for ways of making money to live on, let along run our operations.
  2. There is no visibly recognized boy (like The Law Society, or  Institute of Engineers) that a young or upcoming artist can go to for ready guidance on the how’s, what’s, and when’s .  This leaves the artists to go through a lot of trial and error.
