Iconic rappers FINALLY received awards for their work in the music industry at the inaugural UG Hip Hop awards ceremony yesterday, Dec. 15 held at Golf Course Hotel.

This was long overdue ... but better late than never.

Local hip hop artists have been ignored long enough and it was about time that they are afforded the gratitude and appreciation that they deserve. Thanks to The Tribe UG, their achievements will be celebrated annually.

Very special hip hop icons like Keko and St. Nelly-Sade were finally awarded -- for the first time EVER -- and it was a special moment to witness.

Can you imagine after 6 years of hard work and quality music, Keko had never received any appreciation? Then there is St. Nelly-Sade, a talent that has silently been critically considered Luga flow's best, yet he's never been awarded the same honor in the mainstream spotlight. That was our reality, a very dark one.

New brilliant artists like Pryce Teeba and Byg Ben were also awarded.

Unlike other awards, UG Hip Hop Awards were unbiased. At least that's how good they debuted. We can't tell what they will be in the future, we can only hope The Tribe UG keeps things clean.
