In just two months, over six Nigerians have performed in Uganda while musicians here at home continue to struggle and are unable to book shows.

A number of local musicians have put the blame on promoters for investing in international artists at the expense of home-grown talent.

Some artists have publicly defended international music as the linchpin to the Ugandan music industry. "The fans love their music and we should respect that. We just have to pick a leaf from the way they do their work", dancehall singer John Blaq was quoted as saying on Nigerian music dominating the local airwaves.

Comedy Store boss Alex Muhangi has defended the promoters’ decision, claiming they hire artists that people want to see.

“Ugandans want good work. Once you have it, you make money. Nigerians invest a lot in their music, branding, and more. That’s why we pay them huge amounts of money. And it’s about the audience too. We follow audience trends and if they want to see someone, we bring him/her,” he said in an interview.

Alex Muhangi has organized shows for stars like Diamond Platnumz, Basketmouth, Red San, and Skillz among others.
