According to the Minister of the Presidency Hon Esther Mbayo, this year’s celebrations will be at Luuka district and the head of state, Kaguta Museveni will be the guest of honor.

Uganda will on Sunday 9th October 2016 celebrate its 54th independence day. According to the Minister of the Presidency Hon Esther Mbayo, this year’s celebrations will be at Luuka district and the head of state, Kaguta Museveni will be the guest of honor.

According to Hon. Mbayo, since 1986 Uganda has been progressing and is going to reach a middle income status due to the political, social & economic status quo that is improving.

She explains that Uganda is ranked among the top 10 tourist destinations in the world and the government is working on any challenges being faced.

Mbayo asked Ugandans to protect the independence fought for by the fore fathers.

Several African heads of state are expected to grace the ceremony. The 54th independence day will be celebrated under the theme; “protection of our independence through patriotism, unity and hard work.”

Different kinds of medals will also be awarded to sections of Ugandans including those who lost relatives during the Alice Lakwena war, Uganda Cranes players, doctors, teachers, veterans and many other people who have contributed greatly to the development of the nation.
