The debate began online on Monday this week when Bebe Cool posted calling upon Ugandan DJ’s and TV and Radio presenters to be more patriotic and play local music. He was opposed by several DJs and Radio personalities.

Although DJ Beekay agreed to the fact that Bebe Cool’s music is good, he maintained his argument that Bebe Cool should make sure that his music is of good quality for it to be played by DJ’s.

“You can’t play a poorly recorded song with poor quality when people are asking for Mafikizolo’s Khona music just because someone is a big artiste in Uganda.” Beekay continued to say, “People have listened to better music from across the boarders and you cannot force them to be patriotic when you are giving them substandard music.”

Bebe Cool in response to these claims said,

“Beekay is not on point, he didn’t interpret my post on Facebook very well. My post has nothing to do with the big artistes but Ugandan music generally and patriotism.”

The ‘Kokodiosis’ singer who will be staging a concert at Serena hotel later this year also revealed that he has plans to improve the quality of music; he will be recording several music videos from outside Uganda.

Bebe Cool further revealed that he had scheduled a video recording session with a top producer, the project will cost USD 75,000. He has already released his ‘Nyonyi Nkeze’ video which was shot using cameras mounted on drones.

“An artiste’s music has to be of a certain level, the patriotism card cannot be played just like that,” Deejay Beekay concluded.

Bebe Cool in his final remarks said that he doesn’t write his songs for DJ’s but for his fans.

Maurice Kirya has good music that is written for his fans even though DJ’s don’t play it.” Bebe Cool also concluded.
