A starving 28-year-old mother in Loteerei village, Longaroe sub county Kotido district has committed suicide leaving left behind six children.
The deceased, Mariana Lokwii, has been struggling to fend for her family as the sole breadwinner after she and her children were abandoned by her husband who has since remarried and relocated.
The deceased first lost a 2-year child early this month due to malnutrition.
The children say that prior to the incident, the deceased had tried to fetch leafy vegetables from her nearby garden on Wednesday only to find that all her crops had been destroyed by wild animals.
She returned frustrated and refused to talk to anyone the whole night until Thursday morning when she was discovered dead.
Locals claim that the father of the children disappeared from home a long time ago and nobody knows his whereabouts.
The deceased is set to be buried today. She has left six vulnerable children aged between 4 and 15 years.
