Police in Nakaseke district are searching for unidentified assailants who shot and killed a trader in Kasambya village in Kito Sub County. This is the third person to be killed in a similar manner within a space of three days.

According to Isah Ssemwogerere the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, the deceased is only identified as Mayengo.

Ssemwogerere says preliminary investigations show that the assailants raided the shop where the deceased was with two other people, put them at gunpoint while demanding for cash.

However, the assailants opened fire-killing Mayengo while his colleagues escaped with gunshot wounds before making off with Shillings 7million and mobile phones.

Ssemwogerere says the attack comes three days after a similar one claimed two lives at Kimaga village in Nabiswera Sub County in Nakasongola district.

The dead were identified as Christine Nakagwa and Herbert Ssempijja.

Patience Namara the Nakasongola District Police Commander said they treated the attack as a case of aggravated robbery. However, investigations showed that the same assailants first shot at Joseph Kato, the owner of the shop that was targeted for robbery.

Namara says Kato was from shopping  at around 9:30 pm on Thursday, when the attackers suddenly appeared and commanded everybody to lie down before demanding for cash which he handed over, but one of the assailants proceeded to the shop where he shot and killed a one Christine Nakaggwa who was with her baby.

Meanwhile, the thugs also shot Kato’s brother, Herbert Ssempijja while escaping from the robbery scene.

Police have launched a manhunt for the assailants.
