Police in Kagadi district have arrested Jeremiah Asiimwe, the defence secretary for Rubiri village for allegedly selling free government face masks to residents.
Kagadi district received the first batch of 341,197 face masks from the Health Ministry last week, as a way to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the community.
On Monday, the Resident District Commissioner Lillian Ruteraho flagged off distribution of the face masks to residents of Kagadi district, and they were handed over to LC1 chairpersons for distribution to the residents.
It is however alleged that on Tuesday, Asiimwe was caught red handed selling the same masks to residents at 500 Shillings each. According to reports, the suspect had sold over 100 masks at the time of his arrest.
Ruteraho says she was alerted by some steady residents who saw Asiimwe selling the face masks and sent security who arrested him.
