Four men have been sentenced to death after they were found guilty of murder and aggravated robbery following  the July 2018 raid on Muto Hardware in Masaka.

Four men have been sentenced to death after they were found guilty of murder and aggravated robbery following  the July 2018 raid on Muto Hardware in Masaka.

The four are part of a sister  men gang and they include; Retired Corporal, Paul Kiwanuka, Steven Kayemba, John Bosco Waliggo and Julius Tweheyo alias Rutwiigi.   

Chaired by Lt General Andrew Gutti, the General Court Martial also handed Mudathiru Tumwesigye and Gerevazio Kankaka, a 45 year jail term each excluding the time they have spent on remand, after it heard that the degree of participation of the suspects in the robbery, which led to the murder of Shafik Kiggundu, a casual laborer and Moses Musinguzi, a security guard at Muto Hardware on July, 1st, 2018 during the robbery differed.   

The Military Court handed the suspects different sentences because of their roles in the murder and robbery of Shillings 435 million an also directed that the Shillings 40 million, two Motorcycles, 88 iron sheets and a Toyota Premio Registration number UBA 502 E that were recovered from the suspects be handed over to Moses Kalisa, the proprietor of Muto Hardware because they were proceeds of crime.

 Lt. General Andrew Gutti  while sentencing the convicts noted with concern the rampant murders in the country, saying there was need to give the convicts deterrent sentences to deter others from committing similar crimes. He also noted that the deceased people were innocent with young families to look after but their lives were maliciously ended. 

The men were found guilty of two counts of murder and aggravated robbery basing on prosecution evidence collaborated by 13 witnesses.
