Police has launched an investigation into the murder of an unidentified man who was burnt to death in Kawuku, Katabi Town Council, along the Kampala-Entebbe highway.
According to available report, the deceased had reportedly broken into a house, belonging to one of the residents, Samuel Kizito, along Nakawuka road, and hit him with an iron bar, before stealing household properties. Kizito was rushed to Kisubi Hospital for treatment.
However, eyewitnesses say that an alarm sounded by neighbors attracted a crowd which started pursuing the suspected hitmen in the wee hours of the morning. The group whose effort was beefed up by the involvement of motorists led to the capture of the unidentified man, found in possession of suspected stolen items.
An eyewitness identified as Bosco Kisawuzi says the suspect was tied with ropes and smeared with petrol before he was lit. By the time police arrived, he was already burnt to ashes.
Police led by the officer in charge of Kisubi police station Ricard Karugaba, arrived at the scene at around 5 a.m and took the body of the deceased to Entebbe Hospital for a postmortem.
