Busoga North Region Traffic Police Commander Dickson Tweheyo is in deep trouble after the State Minister for Transport Aggrey Bagiire accused him of poor conduct and asked the Director of Traffic Dr Steven Kasima to transfer him.

According to Bagiire, a number of taxi drivers within Kamuli and Buyende districts have lodged complaints against Tweheyo whom they accuse of abetting corruption and manhandling them during arrests.

Moses Kinabile, the chairperson of Kamuli taxi drivers’ association stated that Tweheyo had impounded vehicles from several drivers and later blackmailed them into paying kickbacks to have them released.

“Most of these drivers are employed by other people. But even after paying the penalties and ready to receive the car from the regional police headquarters, the R.T.O still directs you to pay a release fee which is never receipted,” the complainant says.

Another complainant and driver, Musa Nsubuga from Kamuli district told the minister that they are always arrested in a demeaning way even without defying police orders.
This prompted Bagiire to act immediately, saying the complaints had been transferred to the head of the Traffic Directorate.

He also urged drivers to submit to police and avoid traffic vices like over speeding which has increased accidents on the road.
