Authorities in  Moroto District have struck a teacher of the payroll for alleged defilement.

Wilfred Walucho from Moroto Municipal Primary School was struck off the payroll, on the orders of William Isura, the Moroto Municipal Education Officer.

His troubles started when he was arrested in May for allegedly defiling nine girls from the same school. Police, however, failed to proceed with the defilement case and instead charged him with assault.

Walucho was later released on police bond and his employer advised to take disciplinary action against him.

The regional police legal officer Thomas Opige who also doubles as a human rights officer for Mt. Moroto Region says the case didn’t proceed due to interference from the education authorities.

However, Moroto Municipal Council swung into action and the teacher’s salary was withheld, pending investigations. William Isura, the Municipal Education Officer says the committee is yet to conclude on the matter.

But, Walucho says that the authorities have not given him any warning or interdiction letter.

He claims that the accusations are trumped up because he was raising concerns over poor food, mismanagement of school funds and welfare of teachers and children at school.

However, this is not the first time Walucho is coming under criticism as he faced sexual harassment accusations in 1995.
