Three in trouble for strangling soldier to death

Police in Gulu have in custody three people identified as Fred Luwum and Florence Nalubega while the third is Private Moses Okello, attached to the 4th infantry military barracks in Gulu over the death of a UPDF soldier.

The trio’s arrest is in connection with the death of Private Raphael Odokonyero, a 37-year-old soldier attached to 76th Battalion in Bondo military detach in Arua district.

The suspects allegedly strangled Odokonyero to death from Kanyagoga A sub-ward in Bar Dege Division in Gulu Municipality last night.
According to Denis Kamakech, the LCII Chairperson of Kanyogoga Parish, they discovered the body of Odokonyero at about 8:15 am on Wednesday.

The Aswa River Police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema says preliminary investigations reveal that Odokonyero could have died in a scuffle over Florence Nalubega. Adding, that Police detectives recorded statements from the scene indicating that the four were drinking at a local pub together.

The matter is being treated as a murder case under CRB 212/2019 at Gulu Central Police station and Odokonyero's body has been taken to the military mortuary at the 4th Division military barracks for post-mortem.
