A second suspect has been arrested and is in Police custody as investigations into an assassination hit list that was released to the public on October 24th 2018 continue.

The list has prominent people including Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, former Kampala South Regional Police Commander Siraj Bakaleke, Kampala Minister Beti Kamya, Deputy Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Kibuli Deputy Mufti Sheikh, Mahmudu Kibaate Kyadondo East MP Robert Kagulanyi, Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa, Prince Kassim Nakibinge and Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante among others.

Luke Owoyesigire the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of a second suspect but kept his identity withheld for fear of jeopardizing their investigations.

Woyesigire said the suspect was arrested on Friday morning following intelligence indicating that he was seen distributing the hit list to a home in Lubaga Division.    he adds that the suspect also a Boda boda rider was arrested days after another rider identified as Lawrence Kibira was picked up and released on police bond on the same matter.

The two suspects delivered the envelopes to homes of different prominent people named on the hit list in Rubaga Division.   Owoyesigyire says the first suspect was released due to lack of implicating evidence.

It is to be remembered that a hit list, first of its kind was released some years back containing the names of 8 Muslim leaders and clerics who would later be assassinated.

These were; Sheikh Mustapha Bahiga, Abdukarim Ssentamu, Abubaker Kiwewa Kigejogejo Hassan Kirya, and Major Muhammad Kiggundu.  While a second hit list had the names of senior Police officers including the late AIGP, Andrew Felix Kaweesi and former Buyende District Police Commander, Muhammad Kirumira who were also brutally assassinated.

Police has now promised to protect all people on the new list from the assassins who have over the years dared to act by their word.
