Police in Kampala has in custody three men suspected to be part of a motorcycle theft syndicate in the city.

The trio was arrested on Tuesday and three suspected stolen motorcycles impounded in an ongoing crackdown on motorcycle theft in Kampala.

The suspects have allegedly been terrorizing boda boda riders in Kisenyi, Lubiri Ring Road and Musajjalumbwa. The police operation code named Dumisha Usalaama that is ongoing is targeting other criminals associated with those already in custody.

According to the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, the suspects shall be arraigned in courts of law after investigations are complete.

“The syndicate steals and dismantles motorcycles and then sells their spare parts. This crime amounts to robbery with violence and it is believed that some of the owners could have lost their lives during the incidents” Owoyesigire writes.

He adds that; “ We laud members of the public for providing critical information leading to the successful arrests and call for more cooperation to ensure that the crime ends.”
