Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances underwhich three people were shot by unidentified gunmen in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The trio is admitted at Kihihi Health Centre IV in Kanungu district.

Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson identified the victims as Julius Saturday, 36, a businessman from Nsolo B cell, Western division-Busia Municipality, Patrick Bukora, 40, a resident of Migyera cell and Nassolo Sauda, 40, a businesswoman from Kiyola cell, Nakasongola district.

According to Maate, the trio was shot last night while one was kidnapped near Southern Gate Army Barracks in Kanungu district. 

“It is unfortunate that our people who were travelling on their business were waylaid, shot at and injured, while the other one was kidnapped. Police officers on ground and other security agencies are on the hunt for the assailants and we are doing everything to find them” Maate told Howwe.Biz in a phone call.

The victims were travelling in a Isuzu Canter registration number UAB 196J which was transporting Fish from Kasese district to Ishasha in Kanungu district. 
Maate called upon members of the public to be vigilant and inform police in case they see such wrong elements in community.

“I will ask our people to remain calm. What is important is to cooperate in case you see any suspicious person of that kind, please notify relevant officers immediately so that we can avert the situation” Maate advised.  Maate described the gunmen as being dressed in clothes akin to the uniforms of the Democratic Republic of Congo National Army. The kidnapped businessman has also been identified as Robert Mugabe. 

His whereabouts are still unknown, but the gunmen have today called one of the victims using Mugabe's telephone number and demanded for USD 20,000 (Twenty Thousand US Dollars) ransom for his release.
