Three people have been arrested by Police in Kanungu over murder allegations.

Police identified the suspects as Private Levi Rwaheru, 32, a Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier from the 23rd Battalion in Kayonza, Edgar Turyatunga, 23, a resident of Butiko cell in Kayonza Sub County and Naomi Ngabirano, 27, a resident of Butogota cell.

The trio is accused of masterminding the death of Charles Tibariho, 38, a resident of Ruhija Sub County in Rubanda district.

It is alleged that on September 7, Tibariho had a fight with Levi Rwaheru at a bar owned by Naomi Ngabirano. According to his brother Jamiru Rukarweguhira, 60, Tibariho was severely beaten by the trio resulting in his death this morning.

He died at Bwindi Community Hospital where he had been admitted with severe injuries.

Kigezi Region police spokesperson Elly Maate says the suspects are held at Kanungu Police station for questioning as they wait for the postmortem report. Maate says that they will most likely be charged with attempted murder.
