Residents of Rubindi B cell, Rubindi sub-county in Mbarara district are in shock, after one of their own allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death using a knife.
The 28-year-old Yeroboam Nuwagira who disappeared after committing the heinous crime, is being hunted by Mbarara Police.
Reports indicate that at around 7:30pm on Sunday evening, while at Agellah Clinic in Rubindi town board, Nuwagira who hails from Kabuyanda in Isingiro district, stabbed his girlfriend Silvia Arinaitwe three times using a sharp knife.
Both the deceased and the suspect have been working at this health facility.
Moreen Musiimeta, a member of staff at the facility, told us that the suspect who was meant to sign off from work in the evening decided to stay around up to when his girlfriend arrived for the evening duty.
Moments after Arinaitwe reported for work, Nuwagira asked her to find him in the dispensary from where he attacked and stabbed her repeatedly.
Musimenta says that by the time the other members of staff responded to her calls for help, it was too late to save her life.
The two had a misunderstanding but the members of staff had not known exactly what had gone wrong between them since they have always been on good terms.
Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira says the deceased's body was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital as police intensifies the hunt for the suspect.
