An angry mob in Bulambuli district has attacked and killed two suspected thieves.

Bodies of 29-year-old Rogers Wandega and Moses Wotimisa who is aged 30, were found dumped in a banana plantation in Maguje village, Sisiyi sub county on Sunday morning.

One of the victims was beheaded while the other sustained multiple deep cuts all over his body. The victims had one dead rabbit each tied on the leg using banana fibre. The owner of the rabbits is unknown.

Patrick Kaduwa the Local Council One chairperson of Maguje village said he was informed of the deaths at 6AM by one Francis Wambazu Kiboma a resident in the area. He suspects that the mob action was done on Saturday night.

Charles Wobyanga the Local Council Two chairperson for Mabono parish, suspects that the victims could be part of a gang terrorizing residents in the area. He said cases of theft of domestic animals and burglary are common in the area.

Alphonse Musoni, the Bulambuli district police commander confirmed the mob action in a phone interview adding that it was carried out at night. He said they received information from the area local council officials about the fatal mob action.

Musoni says that a day before the mob action a shop belonging to a business man in area was broken into and all his merchandise taken.

He said the bodies have been taken to Mbale regional referral hospital for a postmortem.

No person has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Musoni said police has launched investigations in the matter so that perpetuators of mob justice can be brought to book.
