Business at the High Court in Kampala came to a standstill on Friday for about ten minutes as renowned city pastor Augustine Yiga looked for a quick way out of court premises to avoid journalists.

This unfolded after the man of God had appeared before the Executions Division of the court on accusation that he had refused to remit monthly maintenance fee of Shs150,000 to a woman he allegedly raped and fathered a child with as she had gone to be prayed for.

Brenda Nalubega, 27, is the woman who was allegedly raped by pastor Yiga of Revival Church Kawala and she was present in court to follow the proceedings.

However, pastor Yiga through his lawyer Faizal Muralila strongly denied failing to provide the monthly Shs150,000 to Ms Nalubega to cater for his child. He produced before court a payment schedule that he has been making at Nabweru court as proof until July, 28 this year.

Clad in a maroon causal shirt and black pants, pastor Yiga upon leaving the closed door court session that lasted about two hours, used the behind-court gate to elude journalists who had been waiting for him. But he was blocked by the court security officers on grounds the gate is only used by the judges.

He then walked gently to the general gate to exit as journalists swarmed him to take his pictures.

Upon exiting the court premises, he crossed over to the near-by Grand Imperial Hotel but he was blocked by the hotel security officers.

By then, traffic had been paralyzed and several curious onlookers stood on the sides of the road to have a glimpse at the man of God.

The seemingly disturbed pastor was only saved by a special hire cab driver who drove him a way.

Ms Nalubega explained that she approached pastor Yiga for blessings about seven years after she heard him on radio. Speaking with difficulty, Ms Nalubega said at the time, she was about to introduce her husband in the traditional marriage.

After prayers and blessings at his Revival Christian Church in Kawala, a Kampala suburb, Ms Nalubega narrated that the pastor called her the following day for another prayer session in Bukoto, another Kampala surburb where the pastor instead of praying, he decided to rape her and she got pregnant.

"I have been hospitalized at Mulago for the last three months because I was infected with HIV but he has not been taking care of me," she said.

This paper understands that the misunderstandings arose last year when Ms Nalubega through her lawyers sought the revision of the maintenance fees from Shs150,000 to Shs800,000.

However, the pastor's lawyers contend that their client was not informed of the review of the maintenance and he was not heard, hence the contest.
