“Today in Uganda If you’re asked to name your top five best rappers am sure Ruyonga’s name won’t miss out on that list”, said the radio host (Fat – boy Of Sanyu fm on his Saturday show alive and Kicking) and we strongly agree with him.

Growing Up and School

When asked to tell the listeners his story he said, “ I grew Up from Nakasero Hill, went to Nakasero primary school, then to Budo for my secondary and I was sleeping in Canada Hosue”

The ‘Budo’ thing hyped the host because he’s and O.B of the school as well, you could just feel the joy from the way he sounded on words, he was feeling the moment.

According to Ruyonga, it’s in Budo where he started the whole rap thing started. They were 3 of them and mentored by Lyrical G. Ruyonga listened to the records of The Wu-Tang Clan, The relevant Snoop Dogg , 2pac, Notorious Big and Others. The rap desire got into them as they moved on with life in Uganda and at some point they secured an award in a category they were in with Klear Kut.

Life in the State-Illinois

He went to the states to pursue a course in graphic design at a University in Illinois. While in Illinois the rap thing took another trajectory for him as he mastered the art there all courtesy of battle raps and online battle raps, that he said is dominated by the geeks and if you were to really win a fellow, you had to like get their Ip address, more like the more info you have on the dude the better your chance of winning.

His Stage name was “Kruked”. He got an opportunity to open for the famous Wu-Tang-Clan, made some money. Getting drunk, women, and drugs was the order of the day… kind of fell off with family. Ruyonga almost got signed to one of Interscope’s labels, that never came to pass because what it takes to be signed was not cool for him (He didn’t shed much light on that).

Encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ.

According to the rapper it all started when his cousin called him up to go to Las Vegas (Sin City). He prayed to God in his heart to just make the drinking and party life stop as he imagined being in Vegas with his life style as a total mess the moment he steps foot on the Vegas’ soil. Then what a believer can say a miracle happened! Ruyonga said all of the sudden as he got out of the bus, he just felt the desire to party hard was gone and he referred to it as his “Damascus”. Those are the same days Hip-hop was on a stand still indefinitely.

Coming Back To Uganda and Rapping the Lord.

Ever since he came back his stage name is “Ruyonga” or “RRUU”, The rapper now does music that represent both his Christian and Hip-Hop life style. The curious host asked him why he updated his social media status saying he was giving rap a break.

He said, “I had much going on, I was planning to marry, so I was caught up with some businesses”. This moment of clarity made the host say some sh—t about Ruyonga back then, but they are cool though.

After playing his Muhuliire and blood smoke fire hit songs, he was asked what inspired him and his response was, “I just wanted to make something simple and easy to relate to that’s all”

Host: Can one really make a living out rap or they may just die trying?

Ruyonga:There’s a lot of lucrative businesses one can do out there and rap I do it for passion, but not as something to totally rely for a living” .He particularly referred to the world’s heavy weight rap mogul Jay Z and quoted his punch line where he rapped about his song being played for ads and the line of

“am not a business man /am a business”

Host: laughs and thanked the rapper for coming through!

With that being said, the glory fire concert is slated august 8th 2015
