The inspector general of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura is in a closed door crisis meeting with the Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dumba Ssentamu, following the closure of the campus.

The university was last evening closed at the directive of President Yoweri Museveni, and students have since been forced to vacate the campus premises as by 9am this morning.

The president’s directive came after unending strikes by the teaching staff who are demanding that government pays their incentives accumulated in the last 6 months, while students were protesting against the decision by lecturers to st5op teaching.

The police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi is addressing the media at the University, after they were denied access to the IGP’s meeting.

However before the meeting started Kayihura told journalists that it was right for government to order the closure of the university until the stalemate is resolved.

He expressed joy that students had obliged to the order by police to vacate the university to stop any further chaos that would arise.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kaweesi has advised international students to seek refuge at their respective embassies. He warned that any students found putting up near the university will be considered a security threat.

Mulago medical students and agriculture students at Kabanyoro have also been ordered to leave campus premises.

“The University will also remain closed to the public. No access to the Library, Football pitch, and Guest house. Those students found keeping near the campus will be considered a security threat” Kawesi warned.

All hostels have also been ordered to close immediately.
