Ker Alur Kingdom officials have lauded the MTN-sponsored bicycle races in the region for fostering the Kingdom’s agenda of ending teenage pregnancies and early marriages in Alur land.

During the just concluded Zombo district bicycle races, Vincent Ochaya, the Ker Alur Kingdom Executive Director said that the bicycle races have proven to be a symbol of commitments mounted by Ker Alur in fighting the high prevalence rate of early pregnancies and marriages which have taken a center stage among the young people.

“We are crying to our youths through sports with the theme of the race, ending early marriages and pregnancies in Alur kingdom and it is only through sports where the youths can be reached with such messages”, Ochaya said.

True to his word, hundreds of youths in the districts of Nebbi, Pakwach and Zombo have been diligently turning up to not only cheer their teams but to also participate in the sensitization drives as organized by the Kingdom, with MTN Uganda’s support.

The bicycle races started in Jonam County in Pakwach district, followed by Padyere county in Nebbi district, and lastly in Okoro county where the qualified cyclists in the three counties will go for the grand finale in Nebbi district later this month. The competing categories include; People with special needs, Women, and men.

Christ Ngombi, The MTN Uganda West Nile Region territory manager says that the sporting activity is one of the preparatory events that MTN Uganda and Ker Alur have put in place for the 12th coronation anniversary of his majesty Phillip Olar ker Rauni III.

Ngombi adds that MTN Uganda is not only participating in the sporting activities but also in transforming education and health services delivery in centers in Ker Alur following a partnership agreement signed by the Kingdom and MTN Uganda in 2019.
