ENTEBBE, October 6, 2014—For the first time in its history, the Pepsi-sponsored Independence Day Golf Tournament will be played at the luxurious Palm Valley Golf and Country Club at Akright Kakungulu Housing Estate on Entebbe Road.

Since its inauguration, the tournament has been played at the Kitante Par 72 course at the Uganda Golf Club.

Announcing the 2014 edition of the Pepsi Independence Day Tournament today, Mr Innocent Tibayeita, the Head of Sales and Marketing at Crown Beverages Limited (CBL), said, on October 9th, more than 100 golfers, both men and women, will descend on Palm Valley to mark Uganda’s 52nd Independence anniversary in style.

He added that CBL, through its flagship brand Pepsi, has injected Shs117 million into the annual golfing tournament, to facilitate the organization of the tourney and make it more exciting than last year. The sponsorship, which will cover course preparation, publicity, refreshments, prizes and player kits, among others, is an attestation of the long standing commitment by Pepsi in supporting golfing in the country and the sports fraternity as a whole.
Mr Tibayeita said, "Pepsi is one of the world’s leading brands at the forefront of sports and this sponsorship provides a perfect platform for the brand to invite and inspire fans to Live for Now. It also provides an opportunity for us to interact with our customers in a relaxed environment."

Sitting on an expanse of 120 acres of land, Palm Valley is an 18-holes championship course, one of the very best in East Africa. So far, nine holes are complete and playable.
The course was carefully designed with the expertise of Allan Fredrickson, a renowned designer of championship courses in the UK and USA.

Pepsi’s announcement of the sponsorship comes at a time when the company is executing the Pepsi global marketing campaign in Uganda. Pepsi announced its first global campaign, "Live For Now," early last year. “The tournament comes on the day that holds a special place in the hearts of both Ugandan golfers and Ugandans generally.

Therefore, we’re very pleased that we shall make Ugandans cherish the moment now,” Tibayeita added. Last year, Tanzania’s Angel Eaton won the ladies title while Don Gorman emerged the overall winner in the men’s category. Aqua Sipi, BTL, Stanbic Bank, Milly Glass, Metal Crowns,ICEA are co-sponsors of the tournament. Crown Beverages Limited, through its various brands, supports various sports in the country including football, motocross, cricket, and volleyball.
