The cyclists who accused him of attempting to steal a motorcycle smeared petrol all over him before setting him ablaze.

His suspected accomplice identified as Charles Okethi (18) was beaten into comma by the same angry mob. He was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.

Joab Wabwire, Soroti district Police Commander says Okethi was beaten and fortunately abandoned in the trench where he fell while pretending to be dead.

Meanwhile, Richard Ochuli, the chairperson of the boda-boda association in Soroti district says cyclists acted in vengeance following an unprecedented increase in thefts and attacks on their colleagues some of whom have lost lives.

He says on average, up to six motorcycles are stolen every week in Soroti district alone.

He however appeals to all cyclists to have their motorcycles registered.
